Design Story

Everything here is built in rings. The outer border is a patchwork wheel of quilted panels \Uffffffff jack-o'-lanterns, witch hats with buckled bands, spiderwebs stitched in fine gold thread, a crescent moon, lollipops, a glowing lantern, and black cats sitting perfectly still. Inside that border, the palette shifts from burnt orange and cream to cool grey masonry, arched alcoves and candle glow. A single black cat pauses mid-staircase, gold-eyed and unbothered, the quiet anchor of the composition. The trompe-l'oeil depth is the trick: flat quilting motifs frame an illusion of descent, so the design reads at two distances at once.

As a round rug, the shape does real work. The circular silhouette matches the concentric layout, so no motif is cropped and the border stays intact from every approach.
