Design Story

The composition is built on strict bilateral symmetry. Twin bronze-toned pinnacles frame a pointed arch, and beneath it the skull sits calm and frontal, its cranium catching the brightest light in the piece. Behind it, deep crimson panels are broken into leaded-looking segments, dark at the outer ring and saturated at the core, so the eye travels inward rather than across. Wing-like curves sweep from the centre and dissolve into tracery, while two small red cabochon-style rosettes anchor the left and right thirds. Quatrefoils repeat top and bottom, closing the circle. The tension here is not action but containment: a memento mori held still inside architecture.

Window & Light Styling

The round window hanging format suits this reading. The disc silhouette repeats the rose-window logic already inside the artwork, the border treatment carries the circular rhythm to the edge, and the hanging chain accent lets the piece face the light so the red passages read at their deepest against a window.
