Design Story

The composition works because everything orbits one focal point. The pale beaked mask catches the eye first, its bone-colored curve cutting against a deep charcoal cloak and a wide black hat. Behind it, a full moon and bare cathedral spires fill the negative space without competing. Then the border does the heavy lifting: deep crimson panels in a stained-glass-looking segmented ring, gold scrollwork, red cabochon accents, twin hourglasses flanking the figure at the horizontal axis, poppy pods along the lower curve, and a serpent-and-rod medallion anchoring the base.
