A gate rendered on a floor is an unusual proposition: the viewer stands above an image that asks to be entered. The composition accepts that contradiction and builds its whole atmosphere from it.

Design Story

The structure is strictly symmetrical. Two carved gargoyles sit on pedestals at left and right, wings folded, faces turned inward, framing a central arch crowned by a crimson medallion and skull. Inside the arch, a moonlit manor recedes down a wet stone path \Uffffffff the only depth in an otherwise flat, ornamental field. Gold filigree and oxblood foliage fill the corners, dense enough to read as pattern rather than detail, which lets the pale moon hold the eye. Beneath it, the words THE OBSIDIAN GATE and ENTER AFTER DARK sit in restrained gold serif lettering, letting typography close the composition instead of competing with it.

Entryway & Styling

On a doormat's rectangular footprint the artwork works edge to edge: an ornamental border contains the scene, the arch anchors the centre, and the gargoyles balance the outer thirds. Viewed from standing height, the motif scale stays legible, and the threshold context completes the idea \Uffffffff a gate laid before a door.
